Another multi-storey carpark is a necessity to solve Tauranga's parking issues, a reader writes. Photo/file

I have just read Wendy Galloway's letter (Letters, June 21). I totally agree with the dire parking situation in the CBD.

I want to support the shops in town and have some lunch after my shopping but on a recent trip, I arrived at the multi-storey carparking building in Elizabeth St mid-morning to find the carpark full.

I then drove around to try and find somewhere else to park but couldn't so reluctantly I too drove to Bethlehem shopping centre to shop and have lunch.

With a number of people coming to live in the area, I think building another multi-storey carpark is a necessity.

Praise for volunteers

There are so many special people who volunteer in our communities, who make things happen. Nothing just happens, it takes passion, courage, and commitment from individuals to progress community aspirations.

The new tennis courts at Omokoroa, are a direct result of former President Murray and Bob Samson representing the tennis club, Judy Samson and the young talented tennis coach Jackson Currie (who is also a prefect at Tauranga Boys High School), representing the development group, with Lyn and Jo Goodyer in support.

They spoke at Western Bay Council and proved to councillors how important the two new courts would be, and how they would allow the club to function so much more effectively, in this rapidly growing area, and allowing for competition play, which only having two courts did not allow.

Today the club has very strong leadership and is in very good heart, but it is always important to acknowledge those who step outside their comfort zones and work to achieve success on behalf of their communities.

Working together we can make things happen, and we have fabulous people in our communities who do just that.

What action was taken?

So the consultants have advised the elected members of Tauranga City Council that the building department has a staff turnover rate of 100 per cent over the last two years.

Average that as 50 per cent per annum and compare it with the staff turnover figures quoted in the Port of Tauranga Annual Report 2015 (excluding retirements) 3 per cent! Including retirements 5 per cent.

When I did my management papers I was taught that 10 per cent raised a very large red flag.

The obvious questions are: did the HR dept notice the rate? and if not - why not? and if they did, what action was taken?
