A man who fled the country while awaiting sentence for two drink-driving offences could not escape the long arm of the law.
Alexander Walter McCormack, 59, was caught drink-driving in October and November 2007, his third and fourth such offences, but fled the country.
McCormack, who now lives in Australiaand was back here on holiday to visit his son in Papamoa, was arrested after he went to check-in at Hamilton Airport on January 19.
In Tauranga District Court on Thursday he was sentenced to three months' community detention, 140 hours' community work and indefinitely disqualified.
That means McCormack will have to apply for permission to re-sit his licence.
