Lachlan Crane will be in the spotlight next year when he heads to London as part of the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare's Globe Centre New Zealand programme.

The Year 13 Tauranga Boys College student has been selected alongside 23 others from around the country to attend the workshop after competing in a national competition in Dunedin.

The 17-year-old says it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he was looking forward to the challenge. "I'm pretty excited about it and it has definitely boosted my confidence."

He first became interested in acting in Year 9 and his passion has evolved overtime.

"I started once I got to Boys College and it was really just one of those things I took as an option subject.

"I saw drama and thought, well I did acting once and I thought why not give it a go and it grew on me. That is where I found my place."

Lachlan has been involved in numerous school productions over the years, including Fame that hit the stage earlier this year, and he is hoping to make a career of it.

"It's weird to say at this point. I don't think I would ever have said this but it feels comfortable on stage. There is a lot of other factors of course, like how long I have rehearsed and who I am on stage with."

Now Lachlan is focussed on the future, which will most likely include the New Zealand Film and Television School.

"This makes me think acting could be a serious thing and I could pursue it as a career.
Anything is possible in the future."

In the meantime the teenager is seeking funding to help his dream become a reality and has set up a Givealittle Page
