Katikati's newest public facility will be officially opened to the public next week.

The public is invited to the official opening of The Centre - Pātuki Manawa on August 21.

The facility at 21 Main St includes a two-storey library and service centre building with a mezzanine floor of 800sq m and a 400sq m community space.

Its design provides a central link between Katikati's main shopping centre and Talisman Drive.

Western Bay of Plenty Mayor Garry Webber said opening the centre marked a "big step forward" in creating a vibrant town centre the Katikati community could be proud of.

"We would love for the community to come along, join in and celebrate the opening of this fantastic new facility – a place where people can host events, connect, share ideas, collaborate and innovate," Webber said.

From 3pm-6pm, Tauranga artist Graeme Hoete, known as Mr G, will create an artwork on the new building and people can take a tour through the new building.

A free sausage sizzle and coffee will be on offer thanks to the Katikati Lions Club.

Face painting, balloons, a story time corner and colouring competition will keep the children entertained, as well as a photo booth and school art displays.

The current library and service centre at 36 Main St will close on August 15 at 5pm while the transition between the two buildings takes place.

The Centre – Pātuki Manawa will open to the public for normal business at 8am on August 22 following the official opening.

The Katikati Library team would like to thank the Katikati Football Club and a range of volunteers for their help with moving.
