Katikati's new library and service centre will open on August 21.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has named the facility The Centre – Pātuki Manawa.

The Main St facility, which links Katikati's main shopping centre and Talisman Drive, includes a two-storey library and service centre building with a mezzanine floor of 800sq m and a 400sq m community space.

An opening celebration will be held from 3pm-6pm on Tuesday, August 21.

People will be able to take tours through the building, check out the new features and facilities and enjoy free activities and entertainment.

Local graffiti artist Mr G will create an artwork on the building over the course of the afternoon.

Western Bay mayor Garry Webber said the council hoped the community would join the celebration.

He said opening the new facility would be a big step forward towards creating a vibrant town centre.
