Night travellers may need to change their routes as the Waikino section of Karangahake Gorge on State Highway 2 will be closed tonight and tomorrow night.

The New Zealand Transport Agency advised motorists there will be a full closure between Waitawheta Rd and Seddon St in Waikino between 8pm and 5am.

Detours will be via Waitawheta Rd and Old Tauranga Rd for both north and southbound motorists and will be clearly signposted.

This work is a continuation of the asphalt resurfacing that happened last week and is weather dependent.

The NZ Transport Agency would like to thank motorists for their patience during this time.
