Mrs Schumacher said, "I was honoured to be asked to be a Regional Judge for this year's Pride of New Zealand Awards, it is so important to recognise people who give so selflessly to their communities is so many ways.
"New Zealanders are well known for their 'roll up your sleeves and help' attitude and these awards are a national opportunity for people's contributions to be acknowledged and celebrated. I am very much looking forward to being a judge but I know it will be a challenge given the calibre of previous nominees." said Mrs Schumacher.
Nominations for the awards, in conjunction with NZME's New Zealand Herald, The Hits and major sponsor TSB Bank, are open until Sunday June 14.
The six catagory awards include honouring acts of bravery or herosim, community spirit, fundraising efforts and people involved with emergency services.
Kiwis of any age are eligible for nomination.
The Regional Award ceremony will take place in August, followed by the Pride of New Zealand Awards ceremony held on September 16.
Yealands Wines have committed to be an event partner for this year's ceremonies.
