Welcome to my final column in the Bay of Plenty Times.
I'm off to join our sister newspaper, the New Zealand Herald.
To my loyal readers, I thank the both of you for putting up with my weekly blitherings.
Between irrelevant ramblings, I've tried to highlight the strange joys that come with living in
the Bay - and that's the way I'd like to finish up.
Below is my very own cut-out-and-keep A to Z guide of my favourite Tauranga things.
A is for Armazem and its live music Sundays, as I don't need to point out for those who caught Godsown at the weekend.
B is for the beef and bacon burger at Henry's Cafe in Elizabeth St - good ole' meaty sanctuary on those dark days when sushi or kebabs just don't cut it.
C is for Celebrity, the aptly-named labradoodle who has been dyed to resemble a tiger and is now making headlines around the world - notably The Sun's "Dye of the Tiger".
D is for Dingadee St in Welcome Bay - the city's coolest sounding street name, hands down.
E is for Easter in Tauranga. Unleash the sprogs on Mount Maunganui's main street for the Easter Family Festival this Sunday.
F is for the new Facebook page BayofPlentyNZ, set up after the Tauranga's Just Better page hit the 5000-friend limit.
G is for Greerton's Living Art Wildlife Park. Two words: Giant. Chess.
H is for the half a duck you can get at Volare in The Strand. Why? Because it's half a duck.
I is for INXS hopefully coming to Baypark Arena. How nice would it be to open the new arena to the opening twang of Need You Tonight? Join the Facebook campaign Bring INXS to Baypark Arena - the target is 20,000 Likes.
J is for the National Jazz Festival this weekend. As a taster, check out the YouTube short documentary on festival star Trombone Shorty.
K is for the Route K toll booth lady whose quirky charm makes you forget you're paying a dollar to use a road in Tauranga.
L is for the lamb shanks Gull in Hewletts Rd sells.
M is for the Mount hot pools' residents discount - always good to rub in the faces of snotty tourists.
N is for Necessary-Evol's Tweet from the weekend: "Why does everyone in Tauranga drive like complete douches if there is an accident ..." Nick-eglobal weighs in: "You could have limited that tweet to 'Why does everyone in Tauranga drive like complete douches".
O is for the orange-fronted parakeet just spotted on Mayor Island, the first to fledge in the wild north of the Cook Strait in about 130 years.
P is for Please Tees in Mount Maunganui, where you can design your own T-shirts or buy ones already printed with beautifully localised piss-takes.
Q is for Sushi Q in Cameron Rd, taking the prize for best shop name. Second place goes to the "Mostly $2" shop in Greerton.
R is for the red couch at B.A Reader. Maximum sloth-out potential.
S is for Stephen at Civic Video in Cameron Rd. He doesn't judge you when you rent out rom-coms or kids' movies (for my girlfriend, honest).
T is for the tree sitting solitarily on the roundabout between Beaumaris Boulevard and the State Highway 2 expressway turnoff. The stubby little fella looks like something from a bizarre Tim Burton film.
U is for Upper Crust Bakery's Pie Buys card. Buy 11 pies and get one free.
V is for the vinyl record section at Mount Bookworm.
W is for a Waka Huia documentary telling the fascinating story of Mauao. You can find it by visiting YouTube and typing in the key words Waka Huia and Mauao.
X is for Paintball Extreme, first on your right past Baypark Speedway. Organise an office outing and take in the marvellous vista of your boss going down in a blaze of pellets.
Y is for the Yellow Cafe. The food and the bubbly service is a barrage on the senses, leaving you nourished and questioning the old stereotype about the French.
Z is for Zeytin's chicken iskender - chicken, salad, rice, hummus, yummus.
