The driver of a car involved in a single vehicle crash on SH2 near Sandhurst Dr overbridge has been taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

A police communication spokeswoman said the crash happened just before 6.30am today between the Baypark roundabout and Sandhurst Dr near the Tauranga Eastern Link.

It appears the driver has hit something and as a result of the crash the northbound lane was blocked for a time, the spokeswoman said.

The female driver was taken to Tauranga Hospital after suffering minor to moderate injuries, and the road was reopened just after 7 am but motorists could expect delays, she said.

It appeared the driver hit the median barrier, according to another motorist.
