A sign put up at the Maungatapu bridge incorrectly labelling the causeway as Maugatapu Stream will be replaced.
The yellow and black sign has been in place at the bridge's eastern entrance for about three weeks.
New Zealand Transport Agency acting Bay of Plenty highways manager Chris Young said itwould look into how the mistake was made but human error was likely.
The cost of overlaying the sign will be about $50 and would be covered by the organisation responsible for the mistake, Mr Young said.
