Hundreds of properties in two Tauranga suburbs have awoken to no power.
PowerCo was reporting 1035 properties in Welcome Bay lost power about 5am, while 173 Matapihi customers lost power about 6.30am.
The cause was unknown and a site investigation was underway.
A PowerCo spokeswoman said most customers power had
been restored and crews were working quickly to restore power to the remaining 116 Welcome Bay customers.
The Matapihi customers would be without power all day as planned maintenance took place in the area. The power was set to be restored by 4.30pm.
