Hundreds of boy racers gathered in Tauranga over the weekend, sparking a significant police presence keeping a close eye on their activities.
Inspector Zane Smith from the Tauranga police said a large number of boy racers gathered in the Western Bay of Plenty on Saturday night.
"A large number of
boy racers were in Western Bay of Plenty Saturday night. It is estimated that approximately 500 vehicles attended," Smith said.
Participants came from across the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato, he said.
Smith said there was a large police presence with 25 road policing officers involved in monitoring the group's activities.
