House fire in Papamoa

01.01pm: The house on Santa Monica Dr is still being battled by fire fighters.

A reporter on the scene said the house looked like it had been totally engulfed by the fire and parts of the roof had collapsed.

There were five fire engines on site battling the fire. It was understood there was no one home, he said.

A house is engulfed in flames as fire fighters battle to put it out this afternoon in Papamoa.

The Santa Monica Dr home was well involved in flames, said Northern Fire Communications shift manager Paul Radden.

Calls were made to 111 about 12.10pm.

Fire fighters from Tauranga, Mount Mauangnui and Greerton have joined the Papamoa brigade in efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Mr Radden said it was a substantial house fire.
