A crash in Mount Maunganui is causing delays for motorists heading towards Tauranga.

The two-car collision happened about 11.20am on Hewletts Rd.

A police media spokeswoman said no one appeared to be badly injured in the crash, which happened between Aerodrome Rd and Jean Batten Drive.

The left-hand Tauranga-bound lane has been blocked by the crash and delays should be expected.

The vehicles are a station wagon and Honda and drivers were swapping insurance details when police arrived, the spokeswoman said.
