A heavy rain warning has been issued for Rotorua and Bay of Plenty.
MetService said rain was expected to become heavy tonight in areas east of Whakatane. A further 90 to 120mm may accumulate on top of what had already fallen from 9pm tonight to 2pm Saturday.
Rain will becomeheavier in areas west of Whakatane from this afternoon with a further 100 to 140mm expected from 1pm to 10am tomorrow.
A heavy rain warning has also been issued for Tongariro National Park.
