Harbour crossing supreme winner

The $130 million project that delivered Tauranga's congestion-busting flyover, and second harbour bridge, has won the supreme award at the New Zealand Engineering Excellence awards dinner.

Harbour Link beat 15 finalists, including the Manukau Harbour Crossing and New Plymouth's Te Rewa Rewa footbridge.

The project also received the Transportation Infrastructure Award.

Harbour Link was one of the largest transport projects ever built in New Zealand at the time and the largest for the Bay of Plenty before construction started on the New Zealand Transport Agency's Tauranga Eastern Link motorway.

The design and build project was delivered by Fletcher Construction and URS New Zealand, with the construction monitored by consultant company BECA.

Harbour Link has won other top awards including Roading New Zealand's Roading Excellence Award in 2010.
