Kate Clarke loves books and she is against council cutts to run the library.

Greerton Library's prominent campaigner Kate Clark wiped away tears of joy as the decision to go ahead with building a new and bigger library was adopted by council.

Tauranga City Council agreed to fund the new library in today's Annual Plan decision making meeting.

As the announcement was made, a crowd of about 70 people broke into applause and Mrs Clark had tears in her eyes.

The council adopted a recommendation to fund up to $3.45 million of construction costs through development contributions, renewals and the divestment of property assets including the Plunket building and/or the block of shops on the corner of Chadwick Rd and Greerton Rd.
