Rotorua's Danny Lee will play in the same group as golfing superstar Jordan Spieth during the opening round of the John Deere Classic this morning.

After recording his maiden win on the PGA Tour last weekend at The Greenbrier Classic, Lee is back in action this weekend during the latest PGA Tour event in Illinois.

Lee has been placed in one of the feature groups for the first two rounds of the John Deere Classic alongside back-to-back major winner Spieth and defending champion Brian Harman.

It will mean a good crowd will follow his every shot, which suits Lee just fine.

"I actually like a lot of people following me and cheering for me," he said, after being asked about the crowd last weekend.

Lee is currently on a very busy schedule and will compete at The Open Championship in Scotland next weekend, which will mark the third major of his career.

But that is nothing new for the 24-year-old who is well known for being a work horse, seldom missing a PGA Tour event to take a short break.

"I never get tired of playing golf. It is my job and I just love doing it and I'm just happy to be out here every week," he said after the Greenbrier.

"But the reason I play so many events was I was really trying to make it into the Presidents Cup this year. It's back in Korea and that's where I was born."

The Presidents Cup in October is the equivalent of the Ryder Cup, but instead of the US taking on Team Europe they play Team International, made up of players outside of Europe.

Team International will be made up of the top-10 ranked eligible players on the Official World Golf Ranking plus two captain's picks. Lee jumped from 158th on the world rankings to 78th after his win last weekend.

Lee tees off his first round at 6am this morning (NZT) and 1.50am tomorrow morning.
