Tauranga's Sam Davis will captain Bay of Plenty at this week's Toro Interprovincial in Invercargill.

Tauranga's Sam Davis will captain Bay of Plenty at this week's Toro Interprovincial in Invercargill.

It is a new-look Bay of Plenty team that manager/coach Mike Campbell has taken to the Deep South for the Interprovincial Championship that starts tomorrow in Invercargill.

Half of last year's team are missing with Hayden Beard turned pro, and Charlie Hillier and Bailey Smith at college in the United States.

Tauranga's Sam Davis takes over the leadership role and his experience will be vital to playing at number three. William Howard, who was unavailable last year, has been promoted to number one and is up to the job with a top 10 finish at the recent SBS Invitational played on the same course (Otatara) as the Interprovincial. A week ago, Howard fired a course-equalling record 9-under 63 in a casual round at Omanu.

Playing at number two will be Rotorua's Landyn Edwards, who has always performed well at Invercargill. Omanu's Jordan Golding, who has performed consistently this year, makes his Interprovincial debut at number four. One of New Zealand's finest young juniors is Henry Spring, 17, from Whakatane, who will lead the team out at number five. Getting the first rubber is so important and the selectors are banking on Henry's short game to do the job.

The travelling reserve is Omanu's talented Shaun Campbell, 15.
