Golf croquet is a modern, exciting version of croquet that is far removed from the traditional version of the game.
"So many people are under the impression that croquet is a slow, boring game that old people play, but that is certainly not true of this modern version of golfcroquet," says Tauranga Golf Croquet Club committee member Sandra Pickles.
"This version is highly interactive, with the opposition sending your ball to the far reaches of the court with great speed, doing stop shots, blocking your ball from going through the hoop and at times even making their ball jump over yours to get their own ball through.
"It is such an enjoyable outdoor activity, regardless of age, with lots of social interaction and a great opportunity to enjoy the company of like minded people from all walks of life and also compete in local or away tournaments if you desire."
Tauranga Golf Croquet Club is holding an open day on Saturday as part of Sport Bay of Plenty's Play in the Bay initiative designed to promote activities and sports in the communities.
The open day will run from 12.45pm to 3pm at the club's grounds at Tauranga Domain.
Members will be on hand to demonstrate the playing of the game. It is suitable for those 15 and up and the only requirement is the wearing of flat soft-soled shoes.
