Tauranga Chamber of Commerce and Priority One today announced a series of co-hosted events and activities to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, which runs from 12-18 November.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. Its purpose is to inspire people through activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.

Chamber CEO Max Mason said, "We are delighted to be co-hosting Global entrepreneurship week with Priority One as both organisations are involved in different, but complementary aspects of the entrepreneurial encouragement and support process."

Some of the activities planned include a 'What's On The Horizon,' future business opportunities seminar where industry experts predict the trends and opportunities available to Bay firms in the next one to three years.

A competition to find Tauranga's favourite business person will be open to the whole community, and the week concludes on Friday 16 November with a multimedia celebration of Steve Jobs life and legacy.

Priority One CEO Andrew Coker said the success of the week would be enhanced by participation, and people getting behind the main message that entrepreneurial thinking and activity is vitally important to our economic growth and development.

He said, "Entrepreneurship is particularly vital to Tauranga because we need more high value businesses that don't just depend on population growth to be successful. We need to encourage new sectors that sustain employment and the creation of wealth when there are economic downturns which impact sectors such as building and retail."
