After reading last week's weekend previews I was inspired to get on board the barge at Omokoroa and head over to Matakana Island for the 8km fundraiser walk.
What a great way to get to know our friendly island neighbours and help them raise money for their community projects.
Two young boys
on horseback shared their local knowledge and humour with us as they led us through farmland and across the estuary at low tide. Covered in mud and sand we ended the day at the rugby clubrooms where the locals had put on a plentiful spread for the tired walkers and runners.
Well done to the organisers and the locals for making it a day to remember.
There's plenty on offer this weekend also.
For a fun family night out, grab a blanket and the kids and head to Mt Drury to catch an Academy Award winning movie.
Mount Mosaic church is screening the animated Disney movie Up at the reserve and all money raised from the event will go to the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
And if you haven't had enough of the royal wedding, we have a great giveaway for you in today's Bay of Plenty Times.

We always have great prizes on offer - and today we reveal who won our Suzuki Alto. Congratulations to the winner and keep reading the Bay of Plenty Times for more competitions.
