Members of the Brookfield New World community gathered this morning to remember one of their own.
Sandra Brown, 59, was killed at her Graham Place home in the early hours of February 20. The ex-boyfriend of her daughter, who was also injured in the attack, has been charged with her murder.
Mrs Brown worked at the supermarket's creche Playland.
At 7am today, the supermarket came to a standstill. About 150 customers, workmates, friends and family came together at the supermarket's entrance for a remembrance service in honour of Mrs Brown.
Funeral director Mike Savage held a moment's silence before saying a prayer asking that Mrs Brown, and her former colleagues, be at peace.
The crowd was silent, except for sniffs from people quietly wiping away their tears.
One woman was comforted by another standing behind her, gently rubbing her shoulder as he spoke.
"This place will be known not just as a supermarket but as a place of warmth and love," Mr Savage said.
"The memory of Sandy will not go ... we especially pray that the memory will still remain but staff will be able to continue with their work in administering care for children."
Mr Savage went on to bless the creche area, where Mrs Brown had worked for 20 years.
A private family funeral was held for Mrs Brown on Saturday.
Mrs Brown's husband and children were present at today's service.
Dean Waddell, owner and operator of Brookfield New World said Mrs Brown was very much loved and respected by her colleagues and customers.
Her murder had shocked his supermarket team, he said.
Last week Tauranga man Tamati Mason, 41, was arrested and charged with Mrs Brown's murder and the attempted murder of her daughter.
He was remanded in custody without plea and is expected to re-appear in Tauranga District Court on March 7.
