Former mayor Colin Hammond dies

Long-term Bay of Plenty community representative Colin Hammond died in Whakatane on Monday.

Mr Hammond was a councillor for Whakatane District Council from 1980 until 1989, when he became a councillor for Bay of Plenty Regional Council from 1995 until 1998.

Mr Hammond then returned to the Whakatane District Council as mayor, from 1998 until retiring in 2004.
