His last game is tomorrow against struggling Lynn-Avon United, who are 10th on the table after conceding 21 goals in eight games. He will be eager for a memorable farewell before he leaves in a game Tauranga City should romp home in.
Coach Duncan Lowry has sympathy for McNab and his partner leaving at this stage.
"I think they have been homesick since they arrived," Lowry said.
"When you come from overseas, it is always going to be a big drawcard to go back. I did it myself many, many years ago and when I went home I realised just how good New Zealand was. Hopefully he will come back, and he has told me he will give us first option if he comes back."
Lowry is pleased to be leading the league but as a football realist is taking nothing for granted.
"Without a doubt we are pleased where we are but we are not even halfway through the season. Phone me up at the end of the season Pete and maybe I will have a smile on my face then if we are in the same spot.
"It is a long, long season."
Last week's away victory over previous leaders Fencibles United was the defining moment of the season so far.
"What it has done to the club it has definitely been the best result since I have been here," Lowry said. "[Goalkeeper] Thomas Pamment picked up the three points for us because he was magnificent in the last 15 minutes. He pulled off three good saves and they hit the post a few times, but I always say you make your own luck."
Links Ave will also host the key local derby in Federation League 1 between leaders Tauranga City and third-placed Tauranga Old Blues.
AFC Fury are just a point behind Tauranga City in second place and will be hot favourites to beat Tauranga Boys' College at Southey Field. Otumoetai Football Club travel away to Ngongotaha AFC. All games kick off tomorrow at 2.45pm.
