"The development would allow people to live in the apartments and work in close proximity to the CBD," he said.
Linde said the Cameron Rd location would mean residents could utilise cycling and public transport options in the city.
He could not say how much the complex would cost to build but the applicant's indicative pricing would be of high spec to attract a "mid to high price range".
Priority One business partnership manager Mark Irving said the combination of two- and three-bedroom units in close proximity to the heart of the CBD would encourage people to reside within the city.
"Accommodation and retail options located within walking distance of the city centre, inner harbour and quality retail and business services can only add to the betterment of the Tauranga CBD."
Irving said there had been an increase in inquiries and activity by developers in Tauranga's CBD.
"The opportunities to develop are plentiful and readily supported by a strong CBD infrastructure and a willingness by many to make Tauranga a strong vibrant city.
"More quality developments like 359 Cameron Rd results in more people working and residing within the CBD, this, in turn, adds character and vibrancy to the city encouraging a flow-on effect," Irving said.
Submissions to the Tauranga City Council opened on May 30 and close at 5pm on June 27.
