6.17pm: South Africa again proved their world class capability as a one-day cricket side with a 72 run win over the Black Caps in front of 4893 spectators at Bay Oval.
South Africa posted an impressive score of 282 after being asked to bat first on what turned out tobe a good batting strip.
It could have been much worse for the Black Caps as South Africa lost their last five wickets for 52 and bizarrely managed to score nothing off the final double wicket maiden of the innings bowled by Corey Anderson.
Luke Ronchi top scored for the Black Caps with 79, to follow his 99 on Tuesday, but there was little else to cheer about in another poor top order batting performance.
A record New Zealand last wicket partnership of 76 between Ronchi and Mitchell McClenaghan gave the scoreboard some respectability but in reality the game was over long before they opened his shoulders.
South Africa 282 (Hashim Amla 119, F du Plessis 67; C Anderson 2-30, M McClenaghan 2-49) beat Black Caps 210 (L Ronchi 79, M McClenaghan 34 no) by 72 runs.
4.49pm: The Black Caps continue to lose wickets regularly as their innings has deteriorated at Bay Oval.
They have scored just 96 for the loss of 7 wickets after 27 overs, in pursuit of South Africa's 282. Mount Maunganui resident Dean Brownlie scored 20.
Luke Ronchi is 17 not out and has been joined by Tim Southee.
4.05pm: South Africa's pace bowlers have grabbed the initiative at Bay Oval.
Black Caps openers Martin Guptil and James Neesham put on 25 for the first wicket before Guptil was out for 11, followed closely by Neesham for 10 after he played a loose shot.
Tom Latham was struck on the head by a fierce delivery from Morne Morkel before he scored as the pressure went on he and new Mount Maunganui resident Dean Brownlie to build a partnership.
Sadly Latham fell to a poor shot, hitting a half tracker off part-time bowler AB de Villiers down Hasham Amla's throat to fall for 16 and leave the Black Caps at 61-3.
3.09pm: The Black Caps' chase to knock off the South African's impressive score of 282 is underway at an increasingly blustery Bay Oval.
A bumper crowd is settled onto the grassy banks to watch New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and James Neesham take on the famed South African quick bowlers.
Black Caps 17/0 off 5 overs.
Guptil had a life in the fourth over after a comic mishap in the outfield starring captain AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn saw a simple catch spilled off Vernon Philander.
2.10pm: South Africa have lost their last five wickets for 52 but still posted an impressive first innings score of 282 against the Black Caps at Bay Oval.

The innings was based around a fine century from Hashim Amla. He brought up his century off 127 balls, including 11 boundaries stroked around the pristine outfield. He then helped himself to four more boundaries off consecutive balls in the 44th over bowled by Trent Boult before he was clean bowled by Southee for 119 off 135 balls.
Captain AB De Villiers was out for 37 off 25 balls, caught off a steepler by keeper Luke Ronchi off Tim Southee, in the 43rd over.
At 224/2 in the 41st over, Southee hit De Villiers in the stomach with a full toss as he tried to play a reverse sweep. The Black Caps appealed but it was given not out, so they sent it upstairs to be reviewed but the on-field decision was upheld by the third umpire.
Tauranga local Trent Boult was expensive, going for 70 off his 10 overs but had late success in the 48th over, with two wickets off successive balls to be on a hat trick.
Corey Anderson bowled the final over, after three earlier overs for 30, and did a fine job with a double wicket maiden.
1.54pm: Crowds are cheering on the Black Caps in earnest at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval as Mitch Savage reaches 50 ODI wickets - the second fastest of all time.

12.35pm: South Africa's top order batsmen are giving a batting master class on a quality pitch at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval.
After 30 overs, the Proteas are 154/1 with Hasim Amla 63 not out off 87 balls and Faf du Plessis 60 no off 60 balls. Their partnership is now worth 100 runs off 107 balls.
Du Plessis has just hit a six off local Tauranga resident Corey Anderson which landed in the media tent - just missing a line-up of laptops.
12.02pm: Strong start for South Africans.
At drinks break after the first hour's play, the Proteas are 81/1 off 16 overs, at a run rate of 5.06. Amla 40 no off 53 balls and Faf du Plessis 11 no off 11 balls.
Veteran spinner Daniel Vettori has been brought on to stem the run rate and - hopefully grab a wicket.
The crowd continues to build with open grass areas filling up well.
11.20am: South Africa's opening batsmen are still together after the opening half hour's play at Bay Oval.
Quinton de Kock (17 not out off 21 balls) and Hashim Amla (12no off 20 balls) have taken the Proteas through to 33/0.

Tauranga local Trent Boult hit de Kock in the last over with a nasty blow to his forearm that delayed play while he received treatment. Amla has had two lucky escapes so far. He snicked a ball between the Black Caps keeper and first-slip, and then skied a ball into the outfield that Daniel Vettori was unable to pick up into the sun.
Bay Oval looks a picture with most of the expected crowd of 6000 plus watching intently from the grass banks.
EARLIER: The New Zealand Black Caps have won the toss and will bowl first in today's second ANZ One Day International at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval. Northern Districts pace men Tim Southee and Trent Boult will partner Aucklander Mitchell McClenaghan in a three-pronged pace attack.
Kyle Mills and Matt Henry sit out the match along with spinner Nathan McCullum.
Conditions are blustery but fine at Bay Oval for today's second ODI that starts at 10.30am.
