UPDATED 12.28pm: A man is being treated for moderate injures after his fertiliser spreader crashed 100m down a bank.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said it appeared the driver of a fertiliser spreading truck overturned and fallen about 100m down a bank on Pongakawa Bush Rd about 11.30am.

"It's gone down through native bush," he said.

He was out of the truck and St John staff had treated him for moderate injuries, Mr Campion said.

EARLIER: A fertiliser truck has crashed down a bank in Pongakawa.

Fire Service Northern Communications shift manager Scott Osmond said a truck carrying superphosphate fertiliser has crashed down a bank on Pongakawa Bush Rd.

The driver was out of the truck and not seriously injured, Mr Osmond said.
