The Boycott Countdown facebook page created by Tauranga man Nevan Lancaster has continued to grow in popularity.

Since creating it last week, the page had already gained 1000 likes by Wednesday, which leapt to more than 5,500 by Thursday night.

As of last night it was sitting at more than 8200 likes and counting.

The page urges New Zealanders to boycott the chain after news that Countdown's Australian parent company was dropping New Zealand suppliers from some of its own brand product lines in Australia, in favour of Australian suppliers and allegations the supermarket chain was demanding back payments from suppliers to cover its losses.
