A expo aimed at encouraging safe driving among young people will take place in Tauranga next week.

Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) and Turners Auctions have come together to host the free Tauranga Young Driver - First Car event on March 10.

The event is designed to target learner and novice drivers in their teens along with their parents for an evening of practical information and tools on the topics of buying their first car, gaining their license, navigating processes such as insurance and finance, and managing the risks for young drivers.

SADD operations manager Julie Elliotte said drivers were more at risk in their teenage years "but the good news is that the vast majority of these crashes and fatalities are entirely preventable".

Turners Auctions national marketing manager Annabel Huskinson said the event was special because it enabled it to play a role in directly supporting the Tauranga community.

The event will host live demonstrations and provide free information, resources, and tools for teens and their parents to take away.
