UPDATED: 4.26pm: Police have arrested one man after an incident at a rural property in the Lower Kaimai Ranges in Bay of Plenty District.

Police went to the property to execute an arrest warrant this morning and the Armed Offenders Squad were called to assist after officers were threatened.

The Fire Service also attended the incident after police discovered a small fire in one of the buildings on the property.

The matter was resolved without incident and occupants of the property are assisting police with their inquiries.

10:28am: Police officers have been threatened by the occupants of a house in the Lower Kaimai Range.

In a statement police said, "Officers were visiting the property to execute an arrest warrant this morning when they were threatened by the occupants and AOS were subsequently alerted."

The Fire Service were also in attendance because there was a small fire in one of the buildings on the property.

The incident was contained at the address and there was no wider risk to the public, police said.

Earlier: A reporter at the scene said Armed Offenders Squad members have come out of a property near the top of the Kaimai Range.

She said they appeared to be searching a hill while three Armed Offenders Squad members went running down SH29 carrying big guns.

Earlier: Emergency services have been called to Old Kaimai Rd, off State Highway 29.

Fire services and police were attending to an incident in the Lower Kaimai area.

A fire communications spokesman said fire units were there assisting police, but could not give further detail.

Smoke has been seen rising from a property in the area.

A reporter at the scene said the Armed Offenders Squad and at least eight cop cars were gathered on SH29 at both ends of of Old Kaimai Rd.

"It's looking like they are getting ready to take action."

Police media communications confirmed police were attending an incident however it was still unfolding and there was no further information at this stage.
