There will be eight days of overnight work on State Highway 29A between Takitimu Drive and Barkes Corner starting on Sunday.

This adds to the list of road works in the district which included the Tauranga Crossing Stage 2 had just opened and a stormwater upgrade was underway along Pyes Pa Rd.

Bay of Plenty system manager Rob Campbell said the road was due to be resurfaced as part of the NZTA's normal safety and maintenance programme.

The metering lights at the Barkes Corner roundabout would not be working during periods of time.

Drivers are asked to obey normal give way rules at the roundabout and drive carefully.

The work would happen between 6pm and 6am but there may be some delays, particularly during the peak morning and afternoon hours.

"We ask motorists if possible to consider traveling outside of peak hours," says Mr Campbell.

A 50kmph temporary speed limit will be in place while work took place and traffic management in place.
