Editorial: Children deserve protection

Far too often we read horror stories of child neglect, abuse and murder.

That this abhorrent behaviour continues regardless of the exposure it receives is beyond comprehension.

So the Government must be applauded for pumping $3.8 million into a parenting programme specifically for Bay families.

The Ministry of Health picked the Bay of Plenty as one of four regions to pilot the programme, which will support parents who are struggling to cope.

Child, Youth and Family's Sue Critchley says the community needs to play a part in protecting Bay of Plenty children.

This course is a big step in offering that protection.
