Footage from April 2017 when the Rangitaiki River burst its banks flooding Edgecumbe.

A section of College Rd in Edgecumbe will be closed to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians for up to five months to allow repairs to the Rangitaiki River stopbank.

The river burst its banks and flooded the town last April after heavy rain from the remnants of Cyclone Debbie.

The road closure will begin March 19 at 7am to allow Bay of Plenty Regional Council contractors to start the permanent repair and will apply to the section between 46 and 80 College Rd.

Single-lane access will be available to occupied houses in the area, but there will be no access for through-traffic for the duration of the closure.
