Early morning outage: Tauranga homes without power

Some Tauranga properties are still without power this morning.

A Powerco spokeswoman said power was initially out to 351 properties in the Tauranga area at 3.40am. However, only 60 properties near 11th Ave were now affected.

Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh said that the cause of the power outage was still being investigated.

Power was expected to be restored at 1pm today.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and our crew are working to get the power restored as quickly as they can," Marsh said.

Meanwhile, Powerco said an earlier notification of a power outage to hundreds of Mount Maunganui homes this morning was incorrect.

Powerco recorded a power outage affecting 674 homes in the Marine Parade area near Tweed and Hart streets this morning.

However, Marsh said the outage recorded on the company's website was a "communication device failure" and there was no power cut in the area at all.

"Our crew have gone to the site and found a glitch in the communication tool had occurred and are working on fixing the tool that signals to the control room," he said.

"It is pleasing that there was no interruption to supply in the Mount Manganui area."
