Dive squad recover body from river near Ōpōtiki where truck crashed with driver trapped inside

The police dive squad have recovered a body from a truck and trailer which crashed into a river near Ōpōtiki on Monday morning.

Around 11.10am there were reports a truck had gone off State Highway 2 and crashed into a river near Toone and Rutana Rd's at Waiotahe.

Earlier today, police said they were making contact with the family of the person believed to be the driver of the truck and trailer.

The police dive squad recovered a body from the serious crash around 10.10pm, police said in a statement.

Police advise a stretch of road around the incident will be closed from 10.30am tomorrow to enable the truck to be removed.
