Digger goes up in flames at Te Puke

Firefighters have called for back up to help battle a digger completely engulfed in flames in Te Puke today.

The digger is next to a pile of wood at a property on Casuarina Drive.

Northern fire communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson said the large digger was ''fully involved in fire''.

''They have asked for another appliance to help with water suppply,'' he said.

''It's near a pile of wood but I don't believe it's endangering any property.''
