A short detour under the flyover in Mount Maunganui will be in place next week as new road surfaces and maintenance are carried out at Hewletts Rd and Takitimu Dr.

The NZ Transport Agency said the work will be done at night with lane closure or stop/go traffic management when fewer people were on the road.

However, some of the Hewletts Rd work required a short detour under the flyover.

The work will be carried out on State Highway 2 Route K toll road, State Highway 2 Hewletts Rd, State Highway 2 Takitimu Dr and State Highway 2 at Apata Station Rd.

NZTA's Bay of Plenty transport systems manager Rob Campbell said people should check for any detours before they travel and be prepared for delays.

"We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while we carry out this important work," Campbell said.

"Before you leave for your journey we'd advise you to check the NZTA website or call our 0800 44 44 49 number and prepare for delays."

People can get the latest information from www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic or by phoning 0800 44 44 49.
