Helen Jarrett was 10-years-old when she started fund-raising for Homes of Hope.

The now 19-year-old did a paper run so she could give them $10 a month - with the help of her parents she set up an automatic payment for more than a year.

Ten years on, the teen has raised over $1000 by organising a concert at her local church, Clevedon Presbyterian, in south-east Auckland.

"It's a great cause, and it is something which is often forgotten about with all the global issues out there.

"It's very community-based and they focus on the little things that matter which I think is quite important. I think Hilary (Price, CEO and co-founder of the Tauranga-based charity) is an amazing person and what she does is incredible," she said.
