Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will be performing in Tauranga next year at Baycourt.

Her performance, An Evening with Dame Kiri, will be held at Baycourt on March 19.

Dame Kiri said she was excited to be bringing her music to Tauranga.

"Whilst I have performed in other parts of the Bay, I am looking forward to my first performance in Tauranga at Baycourt.

"I hope those who attend will enjoy the musical experience. The songs I have selected are all personal favourites and it is always a pleasure to share my music."

Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby said he was delighted Dame Kiri was coming to the city.

"It is exciting for Tauranga and reinforces Baycourt's reputation as one of New
Zealand's thriving performing arts facilities."

Tauranga will host one of six recitals that Dame Kiri will perform on her 2016 New
Zealand Tour.

Dame Kiri will be accompanied by distinguished Christchurch-born pianist and Head of
Classical Performance Studies at the University of Otago, Professor Terence Dennis.

Prof. Dennis is recognised both nationally and internationally and accompanied Dame
Kiri on her previous Gala Tour of New Zealand.

Baycourt manager Megan Peacock Coyle said it was "truly an honour" to have Dame Kiri
perform at Baycourt.

"We hope that the Bay of Plenty residents enjoy this special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity".

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa lured to Tauranga

Dame Kiri has performed in concert halls throughout the world with recent performances in China, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Korea, Canada, Brazil, Sweden, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Norway.

Last year, her performances included guest appearances during the Covent Garden Opera season of 'Daughter of the Regiment'.

In 2013 she appeared in the hit show Downton Abbey playing legendary Australian diva Dame Nellie Melba.

Baycourt is offering Bay of Plenty residents an early opportunity to snap up tickets, with a locals only presale at the Baycourt Box Office, from 9am on November 5.

Sales will open to the rest of New Zealand at 9am on November 9. Tickets for this event were expected to sell quickly.
