New Zealand war hero and last surviving dambuster Les Munro is selling his prized medals and log books.

Tauranga's Mr Munro is to auction the medals and logbooks in aid of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Mr Munro has asked the proceeds of the sale to go towards maintaining the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, London, which commemorates 55,573 of his comrades who were killed on missions over Germany and occupied Europe.

His awards, which include the Distinguished Service Order and the Distinguished Flying Cross, are expected to fetch 40,00 to 50,000 pounds when sold in London on March 25.
