Anna Peterson

Anna Peterson

A blazing century from Bay of Plenty Women's captain Anna Peterson took centre stage in the two ND Twenty20 games played at Blake Park over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon the Bay side never took their foot off the pedal against arch rivals Hamilton. The first mistake that Hamilton made after losing the toss was putting the Bay team in to bat first.

Peterson showed the form that saw her selected for the White Ferns two seasons ago, when she blasted the ball around the confines of Blake Park. At the conclusion of her innings the Bay side had reached 185 for the loss of just three wickets and Anna had smashed an unbeaten 107 runs. The most remarkable part of Anna's dynamic performance was that the 107 runs came off just 63 balls and included 19 boundaries.

A fourth wicket unbeaten partnership between the Bay captain and Piki Tai produced 97 runs. Piki also took aim on the boundary ropes smashing 38 not out from 26 balls.

The Bay bowling performance against the ND Women's heavyweights was no less dominant than their performance with the bat. While the Waikato team made a reasonably good start posting 74/3, the Bay of Plenty bowlers then took control of the encounter.

The best bowling performance was a five wicket bag by Kate Anderson, who was the Bay's seventh bowler. She took control of the game taking five wickets at a cost of just 10 runs from 3.3 overs, with Hamilton's last five wickets falling to Kate. Macy Adams and Tia Robinson also took two wickets apiece, as Hamilton were dismissed for 116 to give Bay of Plenty an extremely comfortable victory.

On Saturday, the Bay side tasted defeat when they were beaten by Waikato Valley. Bay of Plenty batted first and were restricted to 108/8, with Kate Anderson top scoring with 38. The Thames Valley batsmen cruised to victory losing just three wickets on the way.
