Some of the best cricket brains in New Zealand will be in Tauranga this week to deliver a Northern Districts Cricket Art of Coaching workshop on Thursday at Tauranga Boys' College.

Legendary New Zealand player Lance Cairns and Northern Knights head coach James Pamment will lead the ND coaching team in an evening open to coaches and aspiring coaches of any age and ability.

Cairns needs no introduction to anyone remotely interested in cricket in New Zealand.
He is best remembered for his feats in clubbing six sixes against Australia over one of the longest boundaries in the world at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in February 1983.

Northern Knights coach Pamment was a big hitting batsman for Auckland in the 1990s and captained Mount Maunganui for several seasons. He cut his cricket coaching teeth with the Bay of Plenty senior men's team, taking them to three Fergus Hickey Rosebowls in the four years he was in charge.

The two ND bowling coaches, Cliff Dickeson and Graeme Aldridge, were both record-setters for Northern Districts.

Dickeson was a left arm spinner who set the record for most ND first class wickets with 282 bowling scalps during the 1970s and 1980s while Aldridge smashed Dickeson's wicket tally when he finished his career with 355 first class wickets. He also finished his time as a player as the top wicket-taker in domestic one-day cricket.

Northern Districts High Performance batting coach Matt Horne was an attacking right hand opening batsman.

Horne was a regular member of the Black Caps around both sides of the new Millennium, playing 35 tests and 50 ODI's with a highest test score of 157.

The ND Art of Coaching team is rounded out by ND's head of cricket Pat Malcon and Peter Zanzoterra, who is charged with developing the multitude of emerging talent in the Northern Districts region.

Current age-group and senior players were also invited to attend the Art of Coaching workshop to beef up their knowledge of the game.

Entry is free and further information is available from Tai Bridgman-Raison on 0278 617 314 or 575 9120.

ND Art of Coaching Line-up at Tauranga Boys' College on Thursday:

James Pamment, Northern Knights head coach; Lance Cairns, former Black Cap and ND Coaching Staff member; Pat Malcon, ND head of cricket; Cliff Dickeson, ND spin bowling coach; Graeme Aldridge, ND high performance bowling coach; Matt Horne ND high performance batting coach; Peter Zanzoterra ND head of junior performance.
