There was plenty of jubilation in the Greerton Cricket Club headquarters at Pemberton Park on Saturday night after the Greerton reserves added the WBOPCA Shield to the Baywide Cup won by the club's premier side on Saturday.
Greerton went into the last round with an unassailable lead but were defeatedby arch rivals Cadets. Greerton batted first and were removed for 209, with Ben Lind top scoring with a hard-fought 56. Nick Scawin troubled the Greerton batsmen throughout his bowling spell and finished with 4-29. Cadets chased down the total with three wickets to spare to cement third place. Ben Pamment top scored for the winners with a solid 49.
Mount Maunganui wrapped up second place with a solid victory over Te Puke. The Mount scored 212 all out, with Te Puke bowler Cam Riley taking four wickets. The Te Puke reply ended at 133 with Daniel Price posting an unbeaten half century.
Sikh Sports grabbed fourth place, after they won a low scoring encounter with Aquinas College. Louis Robinson grabbed five wickets for Aquinas as Sikh Sports were dismissed for 104. But three wickets each to Sunil Gaur, Harpreet Singh and Amritpal Singh did the damage as the students fell for 77.
Last year's first round winners Katikati dispatched Geyser City at Uerata Domain. The home side posted 195 all out and then bowled the Rotorua visitors out for 130, to take out a solid victory. Whakatane United also moved up the standings after getting past the Sangha XI.
Cadets claimed the WBOPCA B Grade First Round silverware when they beat Grasshoppers in the title decider. Hoppers batted first and were restricted to 129, with Ben Goodall top scoring with 36 while Tom Pamment took three wickets. An unbeaten 64 by Jason Spice saw Cadets home with just two wickets to spare.
Mount Maunganui batsmen Blair Parlane fell one short of a century when dismissed for 99 in his side's loss to the Singh XI. Mount Maunganui were removed for 224, before the Te Puke team got home for the loss of seven wickets.
