The 9-year-old girl who was killed in a crash on the Kaimai Ranges last night has been described as a "popular, bright and happy girl".

The Katikati Primary School Board of Trustees chair said the school community was "deeply saddened" by the passing of one of their students.

"[She] will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew her.

"Other members of her family, including her younger brother who is a student at our school, were also injured in the accident and we pray for their recovery also.

"We are all thinking of and praying for her family and friends and offer our support and love to them."
