A car and a truck have crashed on one of Tauranga's busiest highways.

Emergency services were called to the collision, on State Highway 29a near Maungatapu about 9.30am.

The crash happened between Maungatapu Bridge and the Maungatapu roundabout.

A police communications spokeswoman said traffic was building on the northbound lane but the crash was not blocking.

It was not clear whether anyone has been hurt, at this stage.
