A logging truck has hit a cow in Paengaroa, leaving the cow "in a bad way".

A police communications spokeswoman said police received a call about 6.10pm about the fully-laden logging truck striking a cow as the driver was heading south along State Highway 33.

The cow was struck near the intersection with Maungarangi Rd, the spokeswoman said.

"Apparently, the truck sustained some damage and the cow was still alive when the 111 call was received but it was in a bad way," she said.

The police spokeswoman said the fate of the cow was unknown, and there was no report that the driver was injured but he would have been left badly shaken.
