A cow has died after wandering on to a highway and being hit by a car near Paengaroa.
A police media spokeswoman said police were notified of the crash, on State Highway 2 between Tauranga Eastern Link Rd and Wilson Rd South, about 5.30am.
The cow was killed in thecrash but the driver of the car was not injured, she said.
