Covid 19 Delta outbreak: Five new cases in BOP, one in Rotorua, Ōpōtiki case confirmed

There are five new Covid-19 community cases in the Bay of Plenty and one new case in the Lakes District Health Board region today.

All the Bay of Plenty cases are in the Tauranga area and the Lakes case is in Rotorua.

Three of the Bay of Plenty cases are linked to previously reported cases and links with the two remaining cases are currently being investigated. All five cases are isolating at home and public health staff are currently following up with contacts for the purposes of testing and isolating.

Three cases are in Tauranga Hospital.

The Rotorua case is linked to a previously reported case.

There are 56 active cases in Bay of Plenty and 12 in Lakes.

The Ministry of Health has also confirmed a case in Ōpōtiki, who is isolating at home. This case, who normally resides in Ōpōtiki, was tested outside the Eastern Bay of Plenty before returning home and is not included in the region's case numbers today.

They are isolating in managed accommodation with public health oversight.

There are 103 new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand today and 70 people in hospital.

Of those in hospital, five are in ICU.

Rotorua medical centre new location of interest

Ranolf Medical Centre Rotorua has been named as a new location of interest. Anyone who was there on Monday December 6 between 9.45am and 11.15am should self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for 10 days after they were exposed.

If symptoms develop, get a test and stay at home until you get a negative test result.

Mount restaurant 'high risk' location of interest, other locations named

A Mount Maunganui restaurant has been named as a 'high risk' location of interest.

Anyone who was at Kwangchow Restaurant Mount Maunganui on December 3 between 11.30am and 10.15pm, December 4 between 11.15am and 10.15pm and December 5 between 11am and 6pm should self-isolate, test immediately and on day five.

Other new locations include Mitre 10 Mega Tauranga on Cameron Rd on December 5 8.45am - 10am, and MIDAS Tauranga on Cameron Rd on December 3 between 7.45am and 8.30am.
