Council backs sporting centre study

Tauranga City Council has backed a proposal from Bay Venues to investigate redeveloping the $6 million former Mount Cosmopolitan Club property beside Blake Park into a sports centre of excellence.

The feasibility study will cost $95,000 and will be funded by Bay Venues, who has been talking to sports organisations.

The decision was made at a Tauranga City Council meeting this afternoon. Other issues discussed at the meeting were whether the Council would make a submission on Rena's future and whether it should go ahead with a free parking trial for the CBD.
